Young’s wartime biography describes his rise through the ranks of the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve during the Second World War. He details a number of experiences – some cheerful, others terrifying. One of which is the basis of the cover.

Midnight, 19th of July 1941. First Lieutenant Edward Young is trapped beneath 80ft of water in the brand new HMS Umpire – a sunk submarine in the North Sea.

After several attempts to raise the vessel from the sea-floor, Young and a handful of his men made their way to the conning tower. Where they decided, with grim resolution, to swim to the surface.

22 of 38 sailors were lost as a result of the accidental collision which had sunk the sub.

As one of the first published accounts of the blooming cocaine trade in 1970s America, Snowblind depicts the colourful ventures of an upstart cocaine smuggler and con artist called Charles Forsman.

First published in 1976, the book’s seemingly fantastical events are told with gritty humour; making for an entertaining tale of the Colombian drug trade and its reach into American society.
